A Heat Pump looks just like an air conditioner. It also works a lot like an air conditioner. A heat pump is simply a system that can heat or cool your home by moving heat from one location to another. In the summer it takes the heat from inside your home and moves it outside, leaving you with a cooler home. Much like how your refrigerator keeps your food cold.
However, unlike an Air Conditioner, a heat pump can also run in reverse. This allows it to move heat from outside to inside. Traditional, inefficient heating systems need to create heat by burning fuel or using electricity; but heat pumps can transfer the heat using only a very small amount of energy. In fact, heat pumps can transfer up to 4 times the amount of energy that they consume! This makes them an extremely cost-effective way to heat and cool your home.
