A Heat Pump looks just like an air conditioner and that’s because it works just like an air conditioner. A heat pump is simply a system that can heat or cool your home by moving heat from one location to another. So in the summer, that’s exactly what it does. It takes heat from inside your house, and moves it to the outside, leaving you with a cooler home.
Unlike an air conditioner, however, a heat pump can also run in reverse, allowing it to move heat from the outdoors to the indoors. Traditional heating systems need to create heat by burning fuel or using electricity, but heat pumps can transfer the heat using only a very small amount of energy. In fact, heat pumps can transfer up to 4 times the amount of energy than they consume, making them an extremely cost-effective way to heat your home.
When temperatures get really low outside, your heat pump will get assistance from your furnace or air handler. A dual-fuel setup, or in other words, a gas furnace paired with a heat pump, is a smart way to protect your family against fluctuating utility costs.
Right now, natural gas is extremely expensive, so having a heat pump to help heat can save you a ton of money. That’s why Bill’s heating is including heat pumps with all of our furnace installs.
